PROVE

From ideas to measurable signal in one week.

PROVE is an operating model for rapidly validating product hypotheses through aggressively scoped one-week MVPs. It combines structured discovery, disciplined scope and rapid execution into a repeatable system that became Utsuk's default operating model.

The Problem

Most Proof of Concepts fail silently. They consume months, consume budgets, and produce unclear results. By the time the PoC ends, nobody remembers what hypothesis they were testing.

The problem isn't that PoCs are ambitious. It's that they're vaguely ambitious. They try to prove too much. Build too much. Validate too much. And by doing everything, they validate nothing.

The Core Insight

Success isn't measured by features built. It's measured by uncertainty reduced.

A successful PoC doesn't build a product. It answers one critical question with enough conviction that the team can move forward with confidence. Everything else is scope creep.

The Framework

PROVE operates in five disciplined phases:

Problem Thesis (Day 1)

What hypothesis are we testing? What customer problem are we solving? What does success look like?

Ruthless Scope (Day 1-2)

What is the minimum we need to build to test this hypothesis? What can we eliminate? What's the core interaction?

Rapid Build (Day 2-5)

Build only what's in scope. Use templates, patterns, and existing components. Speed matters more than polish.

Structured Validation (Day 5-6)

Test the core hypothesis with real users. Use structured interviews, not casual conversations. Measure signals, not sentiment.

Clear Decision (Day 7)

Based on validation, go/no-go on the hypothesis. Build a case for what's next, not what failed.

Key Principles

  • Scope is sacred — Defending scope is more important than defending timeline. One week means one week.
  • Hypothesis-driven — Everything is in service of answering one question. Features that don't answer that question are out.
  • Signal over sentiment — We measure whether users can complete the core task, not whether they like it.
  • Document your decision — At the end, publish why you're moving forward (or not), not just whether you are.
  • One critical path — Don't build multiple features. Build one core interaction and test it thoroughly.

Results

After implementing PROVE, engagement on new PoCs shifted dramatically:

  • Time to validation went from 3-4 months to 1 week
  • Clear go/no-go decisions increased from 34% to 89%
  • PoCs that moved to production increased from 12% to 43%
  • Team alignment on success criteria jumped from 42% to 96%

The Multiplication Effect

By running structured one-week PoCs, teams can test multiple hypotheses in a month. The learning compounds. Subsequent PoCs benefit from earlier learnings. The organization moves faster not just through speed, but through accumulation of strategic knowledge.

That's what made PROVE work as a system—it wasn't just about delivering one PoC faster. It was about making the entire organization faster at learning.
